About Us

From Saltydog’s founder, Douglas Chadwick:

Douglas Chadwick,
founder and Chairman

“I originally devised the Saltydog trend investing system for my own use.

I was very dissatisfied with the performance of my financial advisors and pension company, and I was convinced I could do better than them. And it turned out that I was right.

Since I started managing my own money in 2000, I have consistently made market-beating annual gains, and never lost money in a year - not even in 2008 when the FTSE 100 fell nearly 30%.

That’s why I decided to launch Saltydog Investor, and make my trend investing system available to others. I believe private investors are poorly served by much of the financial services industry. And I know that the Saltydog system works.

Since launch, our demonstration portfolio has outperformed the FTSE 100 by a mile.

I should tell you that I don’t have a background as an investment professional. Far from it.

Prior to creating Saltydog Investor, at various different stages in my life I have been a deckhand on a deep-sea fishing trawler, a navigator on a merchant navy ship (hence the name “saltydog”), gained a degree in Theoretical Physics, and built up two successful manufacturing businesses worth millions.

That’s an unconventional career, I know, and certainly has little to do with financial services. But I see that as an advantage. When it came to investing in the stock market, I was able to look at the problem with fresh eyes. Plus my natural instinct to work things out for myself led me to develop my own methods from scratch.

Having said that, the principles of trend investing go back a long, long way – with one of its most famous adherents being Jesse Livermore, trading on the U.S. stock market at the end of the nineteenth century. The Saltydog system is our application of those timeless principles, using the data and investment platforms available to us now in the twenty-first century.

Richard Webb,

“Like Douglas, my background is nothing to do with financial services.

I’m an engineer by trade, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College.

In 1992 I started working for a company which made tubular steel furniture for MFI, Argos, and IKEA. My initial job was introducing robots to automate the manufacturing. And I first met Douglas in 1995, when he bought our company and it merged with his.

In 2008 Douglas retired from furniture manufacturing. But we kept in touch, and ended up discussing investments. I described how I had lost a third of my wealth in the course of that year, thanks to the passive investing approach of my financial managers. And Douglas explained to me the trend investing system he had been using, very successfully, for the previous eight years.

I was immediately intrigued, and after further investigation became convinced of the system’s merits – so much so that I agreed with Douglas that we should launch it to the public. After two more years of development, analysis and refinement, we finally launched Saltydog Investor in 2010.

Six years later, I remain absolutely convinced by the Saltydog system. Our track record proves that it works, and that it can comprehensively beat the market. And we know from their feedback that Saltydog members achieve great results with it too. It’s not a fluke that it works. It’s a solid, effective, proven system.

I hope you will join us, and see the same effect on your own investments.”
